Privacy policy

FeedOff is an iPhone app that shows Instagram and YouTube with parts of the page hidden, and that can block the real apps using Apple's Screen Time. This page explains what happens with your information. The short version: nothing leaves your phone.

What FeedOff collects

Nothing. FeedOff has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no server that receives anything from the app. We don't know who uses FeedOff or how.

Your Instagram and YouTube logins

The Lite tabs show the real instagram.com and m.youtube.com inside Apple's standard web view (WKWebView). When you log in, your username and password go directly to Instagram or YouTube, exactly as they would in Safari. FeedOff does not read, intercept or store them. Your session cookies are kept by the web view on your device so you stay logged in, and they are removed if you delete the app.

What stays on your device

• Your filter toggles, grayscale settings and app icon choice
• Your Shield schedule
• The apps you chose to shield, stored as anonymous tokens provided by Apple (see below)
• A cached copy of the filter rules file

All of this lives in the app's private storage on your iPhone and is deleted with the app.

Screen Time (Family Controls)

To block the real apps, FeedOff asks for Screen Time permission through Apple's Family Controls framework. When you pick apps to shield, Apple gives FeedOff opaque tokens, not the apps' names or bundle identifiers. FeedOff cannot see which apps you selected, how long you use them, or anything else about your Screen Time. Apple designed the framework so that apps like FeedOff never receive this information.

The one network request

On launch, and roughly every six hours while open, FeedOff downloads a small JSON file of filter rules from feedoff.app. The request contains no identifier, no account, and no information about you beyond what any web request carries (your IP address, which our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may log for a short time as part of operating the service). The file itself is public at github.com/peterishere1/feedoff.

Third-party sites

When you use the Lite tabs you are using Instagram's and YouTube's own websites, under their privacy policies. FeedOff hides parts of those pages on your device but does not change what those services can see about your use of them.

Children

FeedOff is rated 17+ on the App Store because it provides unrestricted web access to third-party sites. It is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the new version is published here. Any change that involved collecting data would come with an in-app notice and a choice.
